After a recent investigation by the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), reports have shown a possible link between the rise in DCM among dogs and certain high-end pet food brands. Among the 16 pet food brands listed in this report, they found the food had little to no taurine in their ingredients.
But why is taurine so essential to your furkid's health?
Besides protecting your dog's heart, taurine also aids in many bodily functions. Most healthy dogs can even produce taurine naturally when they are given a diet rich in high-quality meat and proteins.
However, studies suggest that dogs begin to lose this ability and become more at risk of DCM when fed a constant diet made with poor quality meats or with the improper formulation of ingredients. Many breeds can become even more susceptible to DCM, such as Doberman Pinschers, Newfoundlands, American Cocker Spaniels, and Portuguese Water Dogs.
If your furkid is one of these at-risk breeds, consider switching to a taurine-rich diet today.
